In one day, we managed to: break a glass bowl all over the kitchen floor; run the lawnmower over a metal object and break a window; spray flour from the mixer all over half the kitchen; and narrowly stop my father from making several very . . . creative changes to a rice pudding recipe.

After the third disaster, I decided to leave the broom in the kitchen, to ward off evil spirits. Nothing’s broken since then – yet.
